The Touchless Trashcan® was designed to open and close automatically by infrared sensor. The lid opens when your hand or debris when it comes within six inches of the sensor area. It will remain open for as long as your hand or debris is in the area. The lid will close automatically three seconds after your hand or debris is removed from the area. Touchless operation helps to create a germ-free environment. It helps keeps your hands clean while cooking. It also helps prevent cross-contamination, which can reduce the threat of bacteria that cause food borne illness. Since there is no need to touch the trashcan at all, it stays clean and is easy to maintain. The Touchless Trashcan® could outlast most step-on cans since less touching makes it harder to break.
